Jonathan M. Blake, M.D.
Jonathan Blake, M.D. is a board-certified endocrinologist and clinician-researcher with a focus on metabolic disorders, particularly type 2 diabetes, obesity, and lipid abnormalities. He currently serves as a Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and is a staff endocrinologist at the San Francisco VA Health Care System.
Dr. Blake received his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Washington Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the University of California, San Francisco. During his fellowship, he participated in translational research investigating insulin resistance and hepatic fat metabolism.
His research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and he is currently the Principal Investigator on several clinical trials examining the efficacy of new therapeutic agents for metabolic syndrome and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). He is also a co-investigator on a long-term multicenter study funded by the NIH investigating cardiovascular outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Dr. Blake is a member of the Endocrine Society, the American Diabetes Association, and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, and regularly presents at national and international endocrinology conferences.
In addition to his clinical and research work, Dr. Blake is passionate about medical education. He teaches medical students, residents, and fellows at UCSF and serves as a mentor in the university’s Clinical Research Training Program. He is also involved in the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) and delivers lectures as part of the endocrinology and metabolism curriculum.
