14 Safe And Natural Home Remedies for Weed Detox + BONUS

Here we will list 14 home remedies that will help you detox from weed.

If you need a tolerance break, want to quit marijuana, or want to detox, the following remedies will help you clean THC out of your system permanently.

We will back all our statements with scientific researches.

We will also list remedies that are just myths and should be avoided.

14 home remedies to get weed out of your system

The following several remedies are enzyme inducers. They improve the activity(induce) of the enzymes responsible for the THC metabolism in the liver. This increases the speed of THC metabolism and removal.

Use only one of these inducers because they all do the same. Mixing them can cause serious interactions.

St. John’s Wort

This is the most famous herb for inducing enzymes responsible for the metabolism of THC.

It is well researched, and several studies confirm its properties.

This research shows that St John’s Wort induces CYP3A4 enzymes.

“St. John’s Wort Affects cytochrome P450 isoforms increasing metabolic activity CYP3A4 and CYP2C9.”

“St. John’s wort affects the pharmacokinetics of several drugs by inducing CYP isozymes, such as CYP3A4, CYP2C19, CYP2C9”.

How to use: Take 300mg daily with food.

Panax Ginseng

There was a study with 12 people involved. They consumed 500mg of Panax Ginseng twice daily for 28 days. The results showed that Panax ginseng induced CYP3A activity in the liver and possibly the gastrointestinal tract.

How to use: take 250mg daily with food.

Ginkgo Biloba

The study with 14 people showed that the Ginkgo Biloba extract moderately induces the CYP2C19 enzyme. But this only occurred at the highest recommended dose of 240mg/day.

Another study showed that the G. Biloba Extract at 100-2,500 ng/ml significantly induced the activity and expression of CYP3A.

How to use: take 60mg twice daily.

Euphorbiae Pekinensis

In this study’s results, both Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix and Glycyrrhizae Radix induced the CYP2C9 enzyme.

Sixteen adult males were enrolled in a two-phase, randomized study. In each phase, the volunteers received a placebo or glycyrrhizin(the primary ingredient of licorice) for 14 days.

They took 150mg glycyrrhizin salt tablets at 7 a.m. and another at 7 p.m. for 14 days.

The results showed the modest induction of the CYP3A enzyme.

How to use: take 900mg 1-3 times daily for not more than one week

Aspirin, 50 mg daily, was given for 7 and 14 days to 18 males volunteers.

Both 7-day and 14-day low-dose aspirin-induced activities of CYP2C19.

CYP3A activity increased moderately but significantly by both 7-day and 14-day aspirin treatment.

In this study, soymilk and miso induced CYP3A4 enzyme activity significantly.

The following two remedies are absorbents. They absorb THC metabolites in the intestines, preventing their reabsorption back into the blood.

Activated Charcoal

Studies are showing that activated charcoal absorbs drugs in the intestines and prevents enterohepatic circulation.

For example, adsorption of 1,000 ng/mL of free or conjugated THC-COOH was complete using as little as 5 mg of activated charcoal.

That said, activated charcoal may cause some unpleasant side effects, the most common of which are nausea and vomiting. Besides, constipation and black stools are two other commonly reported side effects.

Wheat Bran

It works the same way as activated charcoal but is less effective. In the experiment above, even 250mg of wheat bran could not absorb all THC metabolites.

Following remedies helps to burn more body fat. THC and its metabolites are stored in body fat, and when you burn this fat, THC is released into the blood for removal.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Studies confirm that ACV helps to burn more body fat.

Japanese scientists looked at the effect of vinegar on body fat mass in obese people.

They randomly divided study participants into three groups, with each group comprises people with similar body weight, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference (WC).

Throughout the 12 weeks of treatment, each group drank 500 ml of a beverage containing either:

The experiment revealed that body weight and BMI, waist circumference, visceral fat area, and serum triglyceride levels were all significantly lower in both groups given vinegar.

The researchers concluded that daily intake of vinegar might help reduce body fat and prevent the diseases caused by obesity such as diabetes and heart disease, etc.

How to use: 15ml of apple cider vinegar twice daily with large amounts of water

Consuming more water is an efficient way to burn more body fat and increase the metabolism of THC.

In an eight-week study published in 2013, 50 girls with excess weight drank about two cups of water half an hour before breakfast, lunch, and dinner without any additional dietary changes.

They lost weight and saw reductions in body mass index and body composition scores.

Drinking water increases the number of calories you burn, which is known as resting energy expenditure.

In adults, resting energy expenditure has been shown to increase by 24–30% within 10 minutes of drinking water. This lasts at least 60 minutes.

Several other studies have monitored overweight people who drank 1-1.5 liters (34–50 oz) of water daily for a few weeks. They found a significant reduction in weight, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, and body fat.

Green Vegetables

Green vegetables include kale, spinach, collards, swiss chards, and a few others.

These vegetables have fat-burning properties, such as being low in calories and carbohydrates and loaded with fiber.

Eating green vegetables helps you to increase the volume of your meals without increasing the calories.

Studies show that meals and diets with a low energy density make people eat fewer calories overall.

Green vegetables are also incredibly nutritious and very high in many vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals, including calcium, which has been shown to aid fat burning in some studies.

The main component of Goldenseal is berberine. Some researches show that taking berberine can reduce weight in obese people.

Another study shows that extracts of Goldenseal (Hydrastis Canadensis) inhibited the CYP2C9 and CYP3A4 enzymes.

These effects are opposite to each other. The weight loss effect is good for detoxing, and enzyme inhibition is bad for it.

So you need to take St. Johns Wort together with Goldenseal to induce enzymes and compensate for the inhibition.

8 Home Remedies to Avoid During THC Detox

The following remedies sometimes are promoted as high in antioxidants. They slow THC metabolism and prevent you from detoxification.

Green tea

While Green tea can help you burn more fat and can be effective for THC detox, it also inhibits(slows) the activity of CYP2C9 enzymes. As a result, it will prevent THC from removal from the blood. So you better avoid it.

Cranberry Juice

Scientific studies are contradictory about cranberry juice.

Cranberry juice is rich in flavonoids, which are known to inhibit the CYP2C9 enzyme.

Another study shows that daily ingestion of cranberry juice does not inhibit CYP2C9, CYP1A2, or CYP3A4.

Since we are listing the remedies that are proven to work, we cannot recommend cranberry juice.

In this study, echinacea showed the ability to inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme, which is one of the main enzymes responsible for THC removal. So it’s better to avoid products with echinacea during marijuana detox.

In this study, garlic extract inhibited the activity of the CYP2C9 enzyme by 90% after four days.

So consuming garlic will slow THC metabolism.

This study was designed to explore the potential effects of ginger components.

All three ginger components reduced the CYP2C9 activity and moderately reduced CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 activity. These are the three major enzymes in THC metabolism.

Pummelo and grapefruit juice

This study has shown that grapefruit and pummelo juices are potent inhibitors of CYP3A4 and CYP2C9 enzymes.

So you should avoid grapefruit juice during THC detox.
