Does Gatorade clean out THC?
Gatorade can help you clean out THC by temporarily flushing it out of the bladder. But it cannot help you detox from THC. These processes are different.
We’ll explain how Gatorade can help you and how to use it.
Detox vs. flushing
First of all, it’s crucial to understand the difference between detoxification and flushing.
Flushing means fast and temporary THC removal (THC and all its metabolites) from the urine. It can be helpful if you need to pass a drug test, for example.
Detoxification means complete removal of THC from the body: from body fat tissues, blood, etc. This process requires significant time and cannot be done quickly.
If you need to detox from THC, Gatorade will not help you. THC detoxification is a complex process that requires the burning of body fat.
Your body fat tissues “trap” THC metabolites, so you need to burn that fat to release THC into the blood for removal.
Let’s look at the ingredients of Gatorade and check if they can help flush or detox THC.
Gatorade ingredients
- Water
- Sugar
- Dextrose
- Citric acid
- Salt
- Sodium citrate
- Monopotassium phosphate
Other ingredients: modified food starch, natural flavor, red 40, glycerol ester of rosin, caramel color.
These other ingredients are for flavor, coloring, and texture. They don’t provide any effect on the metabolism of THC.
So we are interested in the main Gatorade ingredients only.
Sugar ad Dextrose
These are both carbohydrates with a high glycemic index value. It means that they will raise the insulin levels in the blood and stop the fat-burning process.
This effect is bad for detoxification because you need exactly the opposite.
On the other side, this effect is excellent for flushing. We need to stop fat burning and prevent new metabolites from being excreted into the blood.
Water
Water is good for both detoxification and flushing. In addition, consuming water is essential for weight loss and burning fat.
Excess water will also make you urinate frequently and flush THC metabolites from the bladder.
Thus the concentration of THC metabolites in the urine will drop below the detectable level.
Salt, Sodium citrate, Monopotassium phosphate
These three also don’t affect the detoxification process, but they are essential for restoring natural urine parameters.
When you flush THC by drinking excess water, your urine becomes diluted. The lab will check your urine for color, specific gravity, pH, and creatinine levels.
If any of these parameters are out of the normal range, your sample will be rejected as diluted. As a result, you’ll need to retake the test.
Salt, sodium citrate, monopotassium phosphate help to restore the natural specific gravity of the urine.
Conclusion
Gatorade cannot help you detox from THC because it contains sugars.
What about Gatorade Zero Sugar? It doesn’t contain sugar. But the only ingredient of Gatorade that contributes to the THC detoxification is water. So you can drink plain water and save money.
Important: drinking water is not enough for detoxification. We’ve written the guide on THC detox. You can read it here: THC Detox Guide. How To Get Weed Out Of Your System
Gatorade is effective for flushing THC. It will help you to flush THC metabolites from the urine and restore natural specific gravity.
Instructions
- Drink 0.8L of Gatorade for 3 hours each hour before the test
- Additionally, you’ll need to consume vitamin B2 and creatine ethyl ester. These two will help you to restore natural urine color and creatinine levels.
